Adolescence brings complex emotions, pressures and questions about identity, and for neurodivergent teens it can bring an extra layer of exhaustion from trying to fit in. Northcore Health offers young people a space where they are genuinely listened to: not managed, not judged, not rushed.
We work with autistic teens, teens with ADHD, those wondering whether they might be neurodivergent, and neurotypical teenagers. Therapy is not about masking, fitting in or being "fixed". It is about understanding how their mind works, reducing overwhelm and burnout, and building a sense of self they can feel good about.
A diagnosis is not needed. Teenagers are very welcome while on a waiting list, or while quietly wondering whether they might be neurodivergent.
Many teenagers do not want to sit face to face and talk for fifty minutes, and they do not have to. We combine talk therapy with creative, age-appropriate activities, so a session might involve conversation, drawing, sand tray work, or simply doing something with our hands while we talk. Fidgeting, pacing and not making eye contact are all completely fine. The young person sets the pace.
Underneath, the approach is integrative, drawing on psychodynamic, Jungian and person-centred therapy. In plain terms: we take the young person seriously, get curious about what is going on beneath the surface, and build a relationship they can trust.
Teenagers need to know that what they say in therapy is private, or they will not feel safe enough to say it. At the same time, parents need to feel included. In the first meeting, which the young person is always part of, we explain to both the young person and their parents how confidentiality works, including the limits that exist to keep young people safe, so everyone knows where they stand.
